JEWISH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL NEW
JIFF 2014 brings you Australian premieres of the cream of the new crop of Israeli and Jewish-themed films. In this year’s program there are 43 major international festival award winners and audience pleasers. The cinema remains a sacred place. In the dark, without external distractions, we can put ourselves in the shoes of the characters on screen and share an experience with our fellow cinema-goers. We may share the same, joyous ride or have an entirely different response. Once the lights come up we can celebrate or argue together. A film-festival is an opportunity to challenge the routine of our thoughts on politics, religion, news and whom we choose to sit next to! So dive into the program. Enjoy the obvious hits as well as the smaller, hidden gems. We are thrilled to launch JIFF in Perth, the Gold Coast and Auckland.
If you have missed any films from festivals past, enjoy our new Video on Demand (VOD) service. Stay tuned for our Holocaust Film Series in March 2015, which will feature more than 30 Australian premiere feature films and documentaries. Thanks to all our generous sponsors and friends. Thanks to our JIFF team and in particular Festival Manager Tamar and my partner Lindy. Melbourne release dates: 5 - 23 November 2014 at Classic Cinema Program TRAIER

Based on true events, KILL THE MESSENGER tells the remarkable story of a small-town reporter who uncovered one of the most elaborate criminal conspiracies in the history of the US government - unleashing a CIA smear campaign that turned the entire American political and media establishment against him.
Renner stars in this dramatic retelling of the remarkable true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb. Webb was a seasoned and respected reporter at the San Jose Mercury News. His career took a startling turn when an upscale cocaine trafficker’s girlfriend slipped him a Grand Jury transcript which revealed a link between U.S. intelligence and Central American cocaine smuggling. Webb soon realised that he has stumbled onto a story which led to the shady origins of cheap, seemingly limitless cocaine on the nation’s streets, all too apparent in South Central Los Angeles...
...and allegations that Nicaraguan rebels working directly with the CIA, were smuggling cocaine into the U.S., using the profits to arm Contra militias back home.

The award-winning new film from Uberto Pasolini (producer of worldwide smash The Full Monty), STILL LIFE is a poignant and life-affirming drama that follows in the best tradition of humanist British cinema. For 22 years, life for the calm and insular John May (the incomparable Eddie Marsan) has been his work for the local council in South London, finding the next of kin for those who have passed away alone. But in this age of ‘efficiency’, John’s meticulousness is no longer considered an asset. He’s made redundant, and left with one final assignment: a search for the relatives of a neighbour, Billy Stoke. John methodically pieces together fragments of Billy’s life; a mix of mischief, misadventure, love and regret, most of all for an abandoned daughter, Kelly (Joanne Froggatt, Downton Abbey). John and Kelly are naturally drawn to each other, and as their friendship blossoms, his outlook opens imperceptibly to life’s infinite possibilities... Beautifully observed, profoundly affecting and laced with moments of Ealing-esque humour, STILL LIFE is a celebration of dignity and personal connection.
