Daylesford trip: nature, art, food and places of interest
20 km to Daylesford. First stop for a quick lunch in the pine forest. We used to pick up mushrooms there some years ago, but this time there were too many spider webs (4 between each tree) to go through in deep forest so we served lunch close to the edge of the forest. The place is surrounded by wild blackberry bush visited often (as noticed) by locals (mainly wombats) - there are lots of "messages" left by them and the whole place smelled like wild animals too:
First stop in Daylesford. Wombats Gift Shop (no wombats spotted though):
Kabuki Japanese Gifts:
Amazing Thredneedlecraft Shop with lots of ideas and great crafted toys:
Paradise Books Shop (we thought that it was a very interesting idea of decorating the entrance like this):
Pantechnicon Gallery (very nice artists and just good overall light feeling):
Red Pepper Gallery:
Incredible Clayfire Gallery (astonishing chairs and very funny figurines made out of clay):
Organic coffee and some outstanding breads at Himalaya Bakery (they have miniature loaves at the front counter for every one to taste):
Street houses decorations:
Sweet Decadence at Locantro (abundance of chocolates made on the spot):
Daylesford street decorations with vines so reminded me of Sochi and Mideteranian:
Overwrought Studio: Australian Made Metal Wall Art and Decorations:
...and at last: - mineral water SPRINGS! So tasty and fizzy... Just one glass made us go to the bathroom every 5 minutes!
... and lots of locals:
We also found Alice in the Wonderland rabbit's hole at the springs:
Convent Gallery garden:
A pleasant walk around the first lake - Lake Daylesford - reminded me of Baltic countries with their pine trees and quiet lakes:
Second Lake - second part of our walk (winning the battle with geese that did not give us way to go around the lake; you can see grey geese among them - young offspings; waterlilies, and some more mineral springs):
The Blowhole next to Hepburn Springs (created by gold miners); it's a very wild place now; we spotted a young heron but she flew away as soon as we noticed her; it's hardly seen in the first photo:
Jackson's lookout - very boring place:
Impressive trees around our camping ground. They are 600 years old (I could not believe the size of some of them):
The Secret Garden nursery:
Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens, impressive Conservatorium (Begonia House), fern walk and Tower lookout:
Convent Gallery coffee:
Turkish ceramics and Uzbekistan carpets and rugs at Nomadic Son shop:
Curious locals:
Herbal Lore liqueurs - the ultimate liqueur experience! We enjoyed complimentary tastings of some beautiful liqueurs in an atmosphere of King Arthur and his worldly court! We also bought some to take home. Amazing taste and relaxing atmosphere...
Can't Think Straight Gallery with lots of hats for any occasion:
Stony Creek Gallery: absolutely divine place. We were offered champagne the first minute we entered the place. The owners are two artists: Michael and Linda are such a beautiful couple! They have done everything with their own hands: we were amazed with the floors that Michael painted himself with the writings from his book: astonishing! The couple greats the visitors in winter with warm red glent-wine with spices and lemon and a friendly talk over an open fire - great people and great collection of art they have indeed!
Bonsai Barn Garden (lots of work put into these art pieces!):
Greenmantle Gifts Shop (we really liked Alice in the Wonderland set of chess and flying kitchen witches):
Daylesford Cider Place: some funny dogs, indifferent kookaburra and the garden:
Sunday Market in Daylesford (we could not find anything better - bee honey and free range eggs):
Des & Debi O'Toole's Honey:
Du Fermier High Street, Trentham and what else is on the street?.. Du Fermier cafe: atmosphere, organic coffee and the best food right from the garden...
Trentham Falls - surprisingly lots of water and lots of observers:
Frogmore Nursery, Cafe and Display Gardens:
End of our trip. Nothing can be better for your trip ending time than coming back with delicious peaches, fresh farm eggs and more from Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honor - fruit and veggies markets:
