Love, Lust, Lost
Review by, Cassandra Van Zeyl
"Love, Lust, Lost" is an innovative and immersive show that takes you on a captivating journey through the depths of the abandoned Astral Theater in Collingwood. This unique experience invites you to explore forty interactive spaces within the theatre, each holding its own secrets and random surprises. I haven’t been to an interactive theatre experience quite like this one as it combines adult themes and deep sea adventures as well as letting you choose your own pathway!
What sets this show apart is the interactive element, where you engage with the characters, solve puzzles, and uncover hidden experiences that add depth to the unfolding story. The under-the-sea playground serves as a mesmerising backdrop, enhancing the overall atmosphere and making you feel like you've embarked on an epic adventure. When you're an adult, you crave a break from reality and of course you wonder what life would be like in different settings! This essentially is a fun playground for adults who want a combo of creepy, crazy and sexy ! They have created a space for characters to explore the concept of love, lust and lost while channelling a combination of fifty shades, marine life, the last of us and a continuation of random themes.
"Love, Lust, Lost" seamlessly weaves together various forms of art, including theater, circus, dance, and song. The result is a multifaceted narrative that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The performances are nothing short of mesmerising, and the talented cast brings the story to life in a truly immersive way. I was personally captivated and freaked out simultaneously given how incredibly creepy the characters were ! I was personally impressed with the dedication each actor held when playing their character for the period of ninety minutes , whilst interacting with the guests! Improv is one of the hardest forms of acting and this crew absolutely blew my socks off !
As you step aboard the EV Nautilus, the central stage for this production, you become a part of the story, making choices that impact the unfolding drama. It's a testament to the creativity of the production team that they've managed to make every visit to the Astral Theater a unique and unforgettable experience. Congratulations on an amazing set up and performance !
Overall, "Love, Lust, Lost" is a must-see for anyone seeking an immersive and interactive theatrical experience. It's a mesmerising journey filled with intrigue, emotion, and wonder, and it sets a new standard for immersive storytelling in the world of theatre. Don't miss your chance to join the captain aboard the EV Nautilus and be a part of this unforgettable adventure.
The Interactive Theatre element in "Love, Lust, Lost" is a true game-changer in the world of live performances. Unlike traditional theatre where you passively observe the story, here, you become an active participant.
Your decisions and interactions with the characters shape the course of the narrative, adding a layer of agency and engagement that's incredibly exciting. It's a testament to the creative team's ingenuity that they've seamlessly integrated audience participation into the storyline, making every visit to the Astral Theater a unique and unpredictable adventure.
Whether you're solving intricate puzzles, engaging in conversations with intriguing characters, or making choices that influence the plot's direction, the Interactive Theatre aspect immerses you in a world where you're not just a spectator but an essential part of the unfolding drama. This immersive, interactive experience is sure to leave you with memories that linger long after the curtains close. Go put yourself out of your comfort zone and take a leap of faith into the unknown. You will be pleasantly surprised to find an incredible combination of bubbles, chains and fluro elements! Can you believe this interactive experience even has a jumping castle ?
To top off an incredible experience you are offered a complimentary drink at the bespoke bar offering Black Spiced Rum, Tequila, Gin and Vodka from the farthest flung regions of the world !
Justin’s Big Balloon Show NEW website review: Cassandra Van Zeyl

Justin’s Big Balloon Show 18 - 23 September 2023 Athenaeum Theatre Theatre
"Justin's Big Balloon Show" was an absolute delight from start to finish. Justin's charisma and talent shone brightly throughout the performance, making it a memorable experience for all ages. The show featured an array of jaw-dropping balloon creations that left the audience in awe. Justin’s personality is what sets him apart from others in this industry. Totally starstruck and left in fits of laughter!
His automatic connection to every person he speaks to on or off the stage should be commended ! Justin's stage presence was absolutely captivating, and his ability to interact with the crowd created a lively and engaging atmosphere. His humour and enthusiasm were infectious, keeping everyone entertained from the moment the show began. What truly set this show apart were the supporting acts that complemented Justin's performance.
They added variety and excitement to the show, demonstrating impressive balloon artistry and unique skills that kept the audience on the edge of their seats. The art of illusion, magic and balloon creations spun an amazing web of ground breaking performances. The amount of detail and colour in each creation was phenomenal, showcasing Justin's mastery of his craft. From intricate animals to towering sculptures, the balloons were transformed into works of art right before our eyes. "Justin's Big Balloon Show" is not just a show; it's an experience that combines entertainment, creativity, and a sense of wonder. Whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, this show is a must-see for anyone looking for a memorable and fun-filled evening. Justin and his supporting acts have truly raised the bar when it comes to balloon artistry, leaving us with fond memories that will last a lifetime. This ultimate stage show experience was led by the one and only Justin Williams, star of Australia's hit TV show BLOW UP! This sixty minute performance includes circus stunts, grand illusions and Justin’s signature balloon creations. Don’t miss this grand adventure and truly memorable experience! This is the slam dunk of basketball !
I had the opportunity to attend the magic show REBORNstarring Luke Blaze. Luke is regarded as one of Melbourne's finest magicians and illusionists. Despite his young age, he is a seasoned performer with three stage shows under his belt, and this new show is bigger and better!
Luke started his love of magic at the tender age of eight when performing for friends and relatives. Creating illusions became his passion and calling in life. The road to success was not easy, but talent and determination found Luke studying with the best in the field. His grandfather was a great support of his career. Luke includes a very moving dedication piece to his grandfather and his other mentors as part of the performance.
This show really highlights Luke's versatility: comedy and cabaret, amazing escapes, dramatic fire swallowing, vanishing acts and transformations, mind reading and mental illusions are all performed with panache. There is something real in every illusion you see live when compared to a TV or screen.
Audience participation is a requirement, making the show energetic and unpredictable. I really enjoyed that we performed our own magic trick under Luke's instructions. It was fresh and unique. We were also asked to answer the question 'What is magic for each of us personally?'. Luke shared his answer: it is the ability of magic to take people from mundane to wonderment, and to let them forget their troubles and worries for 90 minutes. It is a very worthy effort, which achieved its goal.

Promac Opera Gala - Karralyka Morning Musica by Karralyka Centre took place on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 at Karralyka Centre, Ringwood
special thanks: Sarah Stone
At the early morning, I arrived at Karralyka Centre to watch the Promac Opera Gala – Karralyka Morning Music. I was told that this amazing performance showcases the breathtaking opera hits to music theatre classics. It is featuring a stellar cast of 8 including Australia’s most exciting tenor, Bradley Daley with String Quartet live on stage. Even if we have never stepped foot in an opera house, this show has aroused the taste and the songs are a backdrop to contemporary life.
This morning music show includes tea and Café and delicious cakes, it starts 1 hour before the show time. The Morning Tea starts at 9:30am, I walked into the tea room, the cakes and the fruits are neatly placed on a few rectangle tables, various coffees are offered at the side. People are all elders, they are quiet and enjoying this wonderful morning tea. I have been taken photos with a few of them with beautiful cakes and coffees. During the breakfast, the elders asked me if I am an Opera singer, I said yes and I sang opera songs on the stage at the theatres before.
After the morning tea, everyone started to go into the theatre to take the seats. The seats are full. The opera singers sang a few of the world famous songs, my favourite ones are Carmen - George's Bizet; La Traviata - Giuseppe Verdi; Così fan tutte - Amadeus Mozart; Le miserable : I dreamed a dream. Empty chairs empty tables. And the songs from Andrea Bocelli : Con te partiro. Turandot - Giacomo Piccini, Nessun dorma. O mio Bambino - Giacomo Puccini. And the song “In Frankston”.
The opera singings also combined with Music Theatre performances, the audiences were giving warm applauses at the end of the performances.
After the performances are finished, the singers are selling their CDs at the entrance of the lobby. I went to take a few photos with them. I felt so lucky that I was in a photo with the famous Opera singer Bradley Daley, and I was asked by Bradley if I am also an Opera singer, if I’m a soprano or mezzo-soprano. I said yes I am a soprano in Opera.
The Promac Opera Gala is such a wonderful experience and memory. Peaceful morning tea and Opera songs have made my day.

Australian Dancing Society Ballroom & Dance Competition 2023 website photos: Ali Hassan
I was incredibly fortunate to secure tickets that allowed me to witness Joey Alexander's mesmerizing piano performance. Joey is a remarkably gifted young artist who exudes a profound passion, expressing himself from the depths of his heart through his entire being. His love for the art of music is palpable, both in his evident enjoyment of the sounds and his ability to bring them to life.
During the performance, the talented pianist predominantly played Balinese classics, a genre previously unfamiliar to me. To truly immerse ourselves in the music, the majority of the audience closed their eyes, meditating deeply with the sound of music, a gesture I, too, found myself doing. It was heartening to witness the strong presence of Balinese individuals in the audience, showing unwavering support for his artistry.
What struck me even more was the fact that Joey Alexander had travelled all the way from his home in the USA to share his prodigious talent with the Australian audience. A pianist both humble and splendid, he possesses the remarkable ability to play without consulting musical notes, a rare gift that allows him to commit intricate compositions to memory and deliver them to an audience of hundreds with eyes closed. This ability could be considered a divine gift or a testament to his unswerving dedication to the world of music.

Peek into the Past by Tocal Homestead took place on JULY 30 2023 at Paterson NSW
special thanks: Tess Neilson
Peek into the Past is when Tocal Homestead comes alive with the sights, sounds and smells of yesteryear. It is the perfect old-worldly day out for the whole family to become immersed in the nostalgia.
Music whispers across the site intermingling with the sounds of vintage machinery and the clanking of the blacksmiths hammer. The smell of freshly baked scones from the 200 year old wood-fired oven accompanied with a cup of tea is the perfect warmth you need on this winter’s day out. Make sure you enjoy a piece of damper from the camp fire, topped with ‘cocky’s joy’. Try your hand at traditional bush games, colonial family games or watch animals roam. Keep an eye out for the ‘redcoats’ of the soldiers of the 73rd Regiment of Foot; they will fire their muskets and march through the site – keeping law and order and the King’s peace. And they don’t mind if you wander around their encampment and chat to them about what they do.
Drop in to hear one of the history talks to learn how it all came about. There are heritage clothing parades, machinery demonstrations, farm animals including calf feeding, tractors at work, and the original Rolls Royce of the Homestead on display. There will also be sheep shearing and working vintage machinery. On top of all that, there are lots of delicious homemade refreshments, or you can bring your own picnic to have on the lawn.
Victorian State Ballet - Swan Lake DATE: SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 2023 AT 6:30 PM LOCATION: Palais Theatre at Lower Esplanade, Saint Kilda VIC 3182
Review by, Cassandra Van Zeyl
Magical movement, dramatic stage presence and captivating facial expressions. Swan Lake followed the traditional choreography of Marius Petipa and was re-staged by Michelle Sierra. Ballet is such a graceful, calm and emotional representation of stories coming to life through dance as an art form.
Swan lake is a classic and timeless classical ballet treat to all audiences across Victoria and interstate. I was so incredibly pleased that the cast included
internationally recognised artists. Absolutely captivated from start to finish watching the carefully crafted ballet technique of Petipa's original choreography and additionally the original choreography blending the re-staged version by Director Michelle Sierra.
The 32 fouettes of the Black Swan and the world famous Act II - Four Cygnets' Dance was simply remarkable. I honestly believe this performance is suitable to all age groups.
Swan Lake tells the story of young Prince Siegfried who falls madly in love with Princess Odette. Odette and her companions transform into beautiful swans under the spell cast by evil sorcerer Baron von Rothbart. The swan's days are spent gracefully gliding on a lake only to return to their human form at nightime. This is truly a delightful tale but an emotional watch in moments.
I was hypnotised by the pure beauty of every ballet movement on that stage. The cast are so incredibly talented and should be commended on their dedication and training behind the scenes. My early memories of ballet were linked to the film ‘centre stage’ and seeing Swan Lake in full was absolutely mind blowing. The choreography, technique and phenomenal costume designs were out of this world.
Victorians, this is not a performance your going to want to miss !
