GABS BEER FESTIVAL

Iconic, loud and proud is the GABS beer festival ! Walking in the entrance you could smell an incredible variety of beer. This festival is truly dedicated to any individual who loves and appreciates beer, cider or wine! Although this festival is renowned and known for their beer versatility and variety, there are options for cider and wine to appease all audiences. GABS state that they are all about sharing their love of craft beer and cider with as many people as possible through exceptional experiences. This is a statement that I can back up and support. Smiles for miles! Honestly I couldn’t see one frown in the house. This was pure bliss for beer fans and enthusiasts.
There are roughly 52,000 attendees across four cities (Melbourne,Auckland, Brisbane and Sydney) featuring specially brewed Festival Beers & Ciders, a rompeting marketplace of breweries, cideries and exhibitors. The atmosphere was nothing short of amazing with the outstanding entertainment. Did you know that the GABS beer festival has been described by influential US magazine as ‘The Beer Connoisseur’ and furthermore “one of the best beer festivals in the world”. This is an outstanding achievement.
GABS mantra is ‘For today's discerning food and drink lover, both new and old, GABS is a true celebration of craft beer and cider creativity and diversity, as well as the stories behind each brew’. I can truly see the passion, dedication and desire behind every brewery to design and provide a unique and memorable drinking experience! Each beer company had their own flair, theme and finesse about them. What I loved is that the majority of the brewery stands had a game involving beer and prizes to be won. It certainly will be an introduction to beer for some and others a regular occurrence and tradition. Either way this beer festival is inclusive, fun and one to put on your Melbourne bucket list!
Whilst reading up on the backstory and investigating how GABS beer festival came to be, I discovered that the simple question asked was ‘What if we could convince the country’s most exciting craft breweries to all brew and release a brand new beer on the same day at the one event?
How incredible that as predicted this very clever idea ‘caught on like wildfire, and over nine years, more than 1000 “Festival Beers & Ciders” have been brought into the world’! The GABS beer festival was founded in 2011 by beer impresarios Steve Jeffares and Guy Greenstone (the guys behind The Local Taphouse and Stomping Ground Brewery & Beer Hall). GABS is a celebration of craft beer diversity and creativity.
GABS highlights the best Australian and New Zealand craft breweries. This festival has outstanding local food vendors, interactive exhibitor stalls, food and drink education as well as entertainment and activities.
What makes GABS a stand out event is every December, the festival runs the influential Hottest 100 Craft Beers of the Year poll which sees thousands of beer fans all over Australia and New Zealand vote for their favourite beers of the year. The final results are counted down and celebrated across both countries in January and February! How interesting ! The tradition of GABS is the ringing of the bell that closes and opens the beer session. The GABS festival states ‘While it may sound like a simple thing, it’s become a true ‘badge of honour’ for all GABS Bellringers’. I love that this has become a tradition and a part of the beer culture.
I was overwhelmed by the variety of options and thoroughly amused by the various games at each stall. I found myself laughing uncontrollably and really enjoying the spontaneous behaviour that overcame me! Get yourself a ticket next year round because this event is a tradition you’ll want to continue.

COMPLEX HARMONIES IN MODERN JAZZ
It was a delightful experience on 20th of May at the Recital Centre, Melbourne's second largest auditorium for classical music. The concert was called Radiohead Project and performed by young jazz and string musicians.
The heart and soul of the Radiohead Project ensemble was Amelia Evans, an Award-winning Australian jazz vocalist, one of the Australian rising stars. Her exceptional vocal versatility and smoothing timbre is not so often could be heard in traditional jazz musicians. And that young singer’s performance was truly captivating. However, no less important were her quartet’s musicians playing beautifully in collaboration with a string band which joined them for this performance.
The jazz quartet and strings were inspired by Radiohead’s radically deconstructed approach to composition and performance. That movement was originated in the 90s in the UK and picked up by younger musicians who has affinity for jazz, not limited by traditional genre.
Therefore, the Radiohead Project concert was a chance for Amelia Evans to demonstrate her special style in jazz, in collaboration with her talented peers, and a string ensemble.
The Radiohead Project ensemble playing together with the strings, created a unique and expressive sound. That was a rare combination of traditional jazz and modern young approach to the genre. As a result, that produced complex harmonies and rhythms very pleasant to the ear.
Not just Amelia with her charming voice but all the musicians deserved a higher accolade. The pianist was a virtuoso, the string musicians performed in full sync to each other, and the audience did not once burst into loud applauds.
The tickets for the concert were sold out, and attending public was exited and elated with the performance.
After the concert I was so taken by Amelia’s talent that I went to learn about the singer. It turned out that Amelia Evans has been a graduate of the School of Music at Monash University. In 2017, Amelia was awarded the coveted James Morrison Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship, performing as one of the six best young jazz vocalists in Australia. Not just James Morrison but other established musicians such as Kate Ceberano, Gordon Goodwin and others praised young artist for her talent and uniqueness. Amelia has studied and performed both locally and overseas, in such famous places as Manhattan School of Music in New York, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and in Prato, Italy.

The Japanese Festival took place on Sunday the 21st of May at Box Hill Town Hall. My personal love of Japanese culture stems from Japanese values including harmony, order, and self-development.
The entry fee is extremely reasonable and children up to five years old are free. Free entry is also granted to people matching the following criteria;

This Japanese festival has a beautiful purpose and that is to actively promote cultural exchange between Australia and Japan. The festival also endeavours to provide a vibrant festival everybody can enjoy.The theme of the Japan Festival 2023 was “紡ぐTSUMUGU”. It’s truly remarkable that this festival is supported by the City of Whitehorse, Japan's Society of Victoria, Monash University - Japanese Studies Centre and The Japanese Language Speech Contest Victoria Inc.
This festival was cheerful, passionate and rich in culture. The day consisted of various performances including Japanese Taiko Drumming, Traditional Dance, Kendo, Karate, Iaido, Koto, Shakuhachi, Shamisen, Choir and a surprising Karaoke Show. The crowds were truly transfixed on each performance, demonstrating the love and appreciation for Japanese culture. To see peoples faces light up at the commencement of each performance warmed my heart and opened my eyes to endless possibilities. The exhibits were really entertaining including my favourite being the Bonsai trees, where I had an opportunity to discuss the origins, maintenance and meaning behind each tree and its unique design.
I was truly delighted to experience the tea ceremony that went for approximately half an hour. I felt connected through this shared experience. There were multiple other ceremonies including Japanese traditional play, shogi, Japanese chess and origami. The origami was incredibly popular and enjoyed by hundreds. It was absolutely fantastic to see around one hundred Japanese inspired stalls including Japanese Toys, Books, Craft, Games, Ceramics and Magazines.
The raffle of the day was quite brilliant as it included a round trip Airline ticket to Japan which in many people's opinion would be a trip of a lifetime.
When it comes to food, the Japanese are among the most enthusiastic and passionate in my opinion. Japanese people are first and foremost known for their local speciality of sweet, fish, noodle, seaweed and tofu. There is careful preparation and meticulous presentation when cooking and serving Japanese food. Food is an art form. This festival has a diverse selection of Japanese cuisine and there was something there for everyone ranging from sweet to savoury!
This festival is perfect for anyone wanting to dive into Japanese culture and experience all it has to offer. This is a family fun day to add to your calendars for 2024!

Melbourne Design Fair brought exhibitors together as well as interior designers and collectors. Its aim was to " broaden awareness of the contemporary collectable design scene in Australia and internationally".
The Convention Centre featuring the Melbourne design fair. popped with colour and amazing materials and textures. Coming from all round Australia and some internationally the fair was alive with vibrant colours, and eye-catching, arts crafts and furnishings. Beautiful jewellery was showcased, and some very intricate pieces were displayed.
The Discovery area was " A platform exclusively for emerging and under - the - radar designers and makers, highlighting their artistic and commercial promise "
FOCUS was an exhibition in the middle of the room " " An exhibition recognising the skills and conceptual prowess of five accomplished Australian women "". It underscores the importance of inspiring future generations of women in design and promoting diversity within the industry" Both exhibitions were curated by the NGV.
The fair was an immersive experience, and awe inspiring. Thank you for the opportunity to view and review it.

Exclusive Mother's Day High Tea Experience by Urban Vegas Melbourne and Urban D8 Melbourne took place on 13 May 2023 at Vibe Hotel Melbourne, CBD

Lights, Camera, Action! Cheers to another glamorous Urban Vegas event hosted by the ever so lovely, Kavita Chabra. A spectacular Mothers Day afternoon tea party to celebrate, reflect and acknowledge motherhood.
The decor was elegant with a floral and feminine feel. A rose was given on arrival as well as a keepsake shaped as a teacup. This gesture showcased the creative flair that Kavita has. This year's Mothers Day event was hosted on Saturday the 13th of May at the Vibe Hotel in Melbourne. The red carpet arrival amplified and excited all attendees ! To feel like a celebrity is quite a rush and this element was enjoyed by all.
It was indeed an ‘exquisite afternoon’ and the Vibe Hotel absolutely exceeded all expectations on the quality of cuisine! There was a luxurious spread of teas including ‘Tea Drop’ as a signature tea. The scones were presented beautifully with an generous and pleasantly endless supply of apricot jam and whipped cream. Moist and marvellous were some of the words used to describe this decadent high tea. The savoury bites were an absolute delight with arancini balls being the star of the culinary experience. Our taste buds were definitely ‘tantalised’.
This elegant tea room made for the perfect afternoon party ! Pampering stations were set up in the room. I adored the perfume section, where you could choose which scent you’d like to indulge in. Hair styling demonstrations were on request for any queen wanting to glam up.
The cocktail making class turned into a fun array of drinking games putting smiles on all faces while entertaining the competitive side of our personalities. The Dance workshop was a huge highlight as this specific workshop certainly excited all attendees and added to the love, passion and happiness in the room.
Kavita stated ‘Our celebration is designed to make every mother feel cherished and appreciated, surrounded by like-minded women who share the same values of love and family’. This was certainly achieved and Kavitas love for her community is crystal clear to all those who know her and support Urban Vegas.
The welcome cocktail, three hour drinks package and bottomless high tea was well worth the entry price alone. This was such an enjoyable afternoon and a huge success.

It was indeed an ‘exquisite afternoon’ and the Vibe Hotel absolutely exceeded all expectations on the quality of cuisine! There was a luxurious spread of teas including ‘Tea Drop’ as a signature tea. The scones were presented beautifully with an generous and pleasantly endless supply of apricot jam and whipped cream. Moist and marvellous were some of the words used to describe this decadent high tea. The savoury bites were an absolute delight with arancini balls being the star of the culinary experience. Our taste buds were definitely ‘tantalised’.
This elegant tea room made for the perfect afternoon party ! Pampering stations were set up in the room. I adored the perfume section, where you could choose which scent you’d like to indulge in. Hair styling demonstrations were on request for any queen wanting to glam up.
The cocktail making class turned into a fun array of drinking games putting smiles on all faces while entertaining the competitive side of our personalities. The Dance workshop was a huge highlight as this specific workshop certainly excited all attendees and added to the love, passion and happiness in the room.
Kavita stated ‘Our celebration is designed to make every mother feel cherished and appreciated, surrounded by like-minded women who share the same values of love and family’. This was certainly achieved and Kavitas love for her community is crystal clear to all those who know her and support Urban Vegas.
The welcome cocktail, three hour drinks package and bottomless high tea was well worth the entry price alone. This was such an enjoyable afternoon and a huge success.

Wedding Bells manifested in my mind the day of the Mornington Wedding Expo, held at The Mornington Racecourse. The Mornington wedding expo was held the 7th of May from 10am to 3pm. The atmosphere was full of excitement, anticipation and pure joy! Such an amazing, free event that suits anyone planning for the big day or anyone helping friends or family plan theirs. This expo also suits all individuals who look forward to their wedding day and want a glimpse of what’s in store for their future ! Anyone with a passion for weddings is encouraged to come along and soak up this passionate atmosphere.
What a truly caring, supportive and energised group of small businesses. There were absolutely stunning displays of grazing platters, showcasing the diverse range of catering styles and accompanying decor. Some stand out grazing displays came from Grazing with Stella, Platterup by Jenna, Grazelnut Melbourne and Annabelle’s Kitchen. These business owners really love what they do and their passion was heartwarming.
There was a delightful range of taste testing for cookies, cakes and savoury items! I felt the business owners were so generous with their samples, showbags and keep sake gifts! One of the highlights for me was the interactive photo booths, where you could actually trial the experience and take home the photos.
Bayside flowers is a business that will cater for your floral desires!
I was impressed with Patterson River Golf Club and Toorongo River Chalets as potential wedding venue choices given their dedication and personality.
Gold Luxe Weddings had a phenomenal set up and had eye-catching decor. Mark Mayer is a magnificent magician who offers his services to fill in the gaps of entertainment needed on your wedding day.

Gorgeous Wedding Memories (GWM) absolutely blew me away with their hand crafted wedding dresses which were an absolute bargain. Review
This musical is truly hypnotic, emotional and historically significant. A phenomenal performance by every single member of the cast. Each vocalist really committed to the role, showcasing a raw and honest depiction of the emotions Jews would face during these horrific times. I felt my tears were hard to control throughout this musical, given the powerhouse performance of each cast member. This musical was in fact a sold out event in Melbourne last year in 2022. This musical is on its way to New York to showcase its diverse talent and spread this story of love, sacrifice and triumph.
Driftwood follows the lives of renowned Austrian sculptor Karl Duldig and his artist/inventor wife, Slawa Horowitz-Duldig. This relationship is so pure and the audience gets to see the life stages they go through while navigating Vienna and Slawa’s invention of the original foldable umbrella. It truly is a miracle that as a family, they escape Nazi-controlled Austria and the Holocaust.
The smooth transition of the story is a groundbreaking achievement in the world of musical theatre. Congratulations on a jaw dropping,mind blowing and truly emotional performance. The tragedy of leaving home and rebuilding a new life with your family is very accurately represented through the characters acting and vocal abilities. A family’s survival journey is only the beginning. Driftwood really is such a beautiful and unique love story that focuses on the importance of passion, art and creativity in times of war and destruction. This production was better than I could’ve ever imagined and truly brought tears to my eyes ! If you can elicit this type of emotion from a human, then you have selected a world class cast. The music is truly sublime and should be acknowledged as part of the huge success Driftwood has earnt! Hope can always be found even in the darkest of times when family is there to guide you. Don’t miss out on this one !

Sam and Justin provide a wonderful magic show with interesting tricks and illusions. There are some audience volunteers to assist in various parts of the show in a fun and entertaining way. The show included plenty of laughs and a full house provided a wonderful atmosphere during the show as they laughed and cheered throughout the show. There is some fun competition between Sam and Justin as part of the show and that provided the audience with someone to cheer for during that portion.
This is an adults only show as there is some brief nudity so definitely only a show for 18+. After the show, there was a group who’d just been to the show discussing how the tricks were done in a happy and enjoyment way. The show was very enjoyable and the audience were very happy and I recommend it as a great night out.

The Wizardry Express - Melbourne by AMA Event Management departed from Flinders Street Station, Melbourne on SATURDAY, APRIL 15 – SUNDAY, APRIL 16
Wizardry Express The Wizardry Express leaves Flinders Station in a cloud of steam. Aboard the train we found pressed metal ceilings and beautiful wooden details in each carriage and enjoyed a comfortable ride. Characters from the book come by each carriage and entertain the riders. Snacks are served and a game of Wizardry Bingo ensues, as we travel along Melbourne's rail towards Footscray.
The steam train returns to Flinders Street Station after an hour and characters are available for cheeky photos. Even the train engineer was taking photos with kids outside the beautiful steam engine fuelled by coal. Riding this train is a very entertaining and joyful event.

The queue to get into Shaun Tan’s latest exhibition, “On My Way to Paradise,” at the Bein Art Gallery wound all the way from the front and down the side street. This amazing event was packed out and Grace and I were totally blown away.
This is the second time we’ve attended an opening night at this gallery and both times the events were well attended. Bein Art is one of Australia’s leading galleries for cutting edge, highly skilled, figurative art. This is the place to be if you want to be seen. It is also a Mecca for art collectors. In our first few minutes inside, we saw a queue of enthusiasts lined up and purchasing works. The red dots were going up on the artworks so fast that they must have sold out on the very first night.
Grace and I were thrilled to have been invited to the opening night. I’d researched some of Shaun’s works beforehand and was amazed that the art wasn’t his main outlet. Books and film come first and he even won an academy award in 2011 for his animated feature “The Lost Thing.” This movie itself was an adaptation of his illustrated book.
Some of the works featured were in fact illustrations from his books. The range of ideas and use of different media immediately struck me. One thing that all have in common is a dreamlike quality. Sometimes it is children repairing broken things and other times it is stark and lonely. From realistic to cartoony, this man is talent incarnate.
With the reviews of Shaun’s work online being mainly from big overseas media outlets, you would be forgiven for thinking that he is from the USA, England or somewhere else, but no …. This is a local boy. Born and raised in Western Australia, I am told that he now lives in Melbourne. He has won numerous awards and prizes, however, the work speaks for itself.
The exhibition will be running from April 30 – May 21, with a book signing on May 13 between 1-4 PM. When you enter this space, you are taken into another dream like world. Just empty your mind and allow the images to take you away through an emotional roller coaster of hope, despair and introspection.

Melbourne Color Frenzy fun walk or run was a great entertainment initiative to spent a colourful day with family and to raise money for Animal Rescue Charity all over the Australia.
The event vibe was very positive and energetic. It felt so amazing seeing small kids and parents with prams running and enjoying it.
The registration staff at the check-in point were all really helpful and friendly. People were so excited to be together, socialise and enjoy the colours with water bubble stations.
The atmosphere was very infectious and you could feel the zeal to run along with them. The local stalls for coffee and food items were also there for all to edulge on a bite to eat after or before the run.
People were having fun at the water bubble and colour stations along the track. The events like this should happen more often to support the great causes and also to motivate people to get out of their homes to love the fresh air and improve their health.
The 5km run early morning with the bonus (colours!) was really great way to attract people and make them work towards their healthy lifestyle goals. We really enjoyed it and I woulld recommend it for everyone to go and spend some great time with their families.

NGV Triennial 2023: 75+ projects by 100 artists, designers and collectives from 30+ countries opens SUNDAY, 3 December 2023 - SUNDAY, 7 April 2024 at the National Gallery of Victoria NGV International ST KILDA MELBOURNE

NGV Triennial Announcement 2023
Just prior to Easter, NGV Director Tony Ellwood showcased the NGV triennial to the Media. After three years and the prolonged COVID lockdown, it is back to enthral audiences during the summer months.
Featuring over 75 artists, the triennial will display numerous works of varying genres. This will include Yoko Ono’s test based work, which will appear on the façade of the NGV International Building.
British artist Tracey Emin will be represented by a five metre high text based neon light of her handwriting plus bronze sculptures and paintings that confront an array of human emotions.
Nowhere to go is a colourful installation by US artist Sheila Hicks demonstrating architectural space and reactions that colour has on the senses.
Mun-dirra a 100 metre fish fence is the result of 2 years woven work by ten artists working in Maningrida, Arnhem Land. The immersive installation features two fish traps produced in this area. Customary weavers from the Burrarra language group in East Arnhem land have contributed to this project. This work emphasises this form to impart matrilineal knowledge and how the Yolngu peopled have managed to live sustainably for countless years.
Towards the end of the event, Polish-born Agnieska Pilat appeared with two robot dogs from Boston Dynamics. She displayed doggy-like efforts such as walking, sitting and dropping on command – pretty much like their well-behaved canine counterparts. I sensed a wave of enthusiasm amongst those at this event, due to the uniqueness of the “dogs”. The plan is for Agnieska to train these dogs to paint and demonstrate the be vast possibilities of AI. I feel this will definitely a drawcard to the Triennial 2023.

Fashion runway like you’ve never seen before! A three dimensional darker twist to the Alice in
Wonderland theme, where you venture down the rabbit hole. Immersed in an entirely new world, comes a new catwalk experience for anyone with a passion for fashion.
This event was held April the 9th (Easter Sunday) at twenty four moons where the venue was transformed into an immersive experience as well as a lucrative adventure. An elaborative, thrilling and unique fashion runway was paired with fascinating installations further opening up the mind.
The catwalk performances were thoroughly enjoyed by all audience members. All local talented designers showcased their pieces that were complimented with bass producers both interstate and local. This is by far the most random, entertaining and quirky event I’ve ever been to on the night of Easter! To combine clubbing and a catwalk really is pure genius. This definitely was a ‘fresh new concept in what a nightclub will hold for your visual and expressive entertainment’ as stated by the organiser.
I absolutely loved that there was in fact a scavenger hunt in the venue to find 12 Clues starting at the cocktail bar. These riddles and rhymes matched in perfectly with the Alice in wonderland theme.
Becky Bubble had the most eye-catching and extravagant outfits that were a real stand out on the night. Becky Bubble is known as a staple in the performance industry within Melbourne's vibrant scene. Her devotion to showcasing the magical elements of the world is just phenomenal. Her beautiful craft of bubbles is commended. This catwalk definitely demonstrated her mind blowing custom made ever growing collection of costumes. Explosive reactions from onlookers and shivers down my shine personally. Becky Bubbles Creations were showcased altogether on the Easter Catwalk complimented by the carefully curated Bass set from Dysphemic.
Another major designer standout on the runway was ‘Decadent’. This ‘Australian based ethical fashion label was created by Designer and Dressmaker, Asha Sym and Music Producer and Photographer, Jake Steele’. They create unique couture and textile prints made from their own macro photographs of nature. This is truly groundbreaking and what an honour to be a part of this experience. Their label explores sustainable ideas and opens up much needed discussions on the clothes industry.
I was very moved when I learnt that ‘Offworld Aesthetic is a size inclusive, vegan, queer/disabled owned brand ethically producing accessories for fashion-forward folk from all walks of life’! This is such a beautiful designer with a heart of gold.
A special shout out to Mazzquerade, Mertildamandala, Jayin and Bluestoneclothing! These labels all had so much love, passion and pure commitment to their cause! The catwalk reflected the designers flavour, attitude and message through the models movements, expression and body language.
Sickest House hosted a truly memorable event ! Congratulations on a night of glamour, uniqueness and quirky moments! Colour, versatility and pure magic on the runway. The combination of models, DJ’s and designers really made the night a roaring success!

The Greatest Magic Show

When I told my kids we’d be going to watch The Greatest Magic Show they were beyond excited. When they received a free wand prior to entering the theatre, the excitement grew! Who would have thought a small wand could build so much anticipation. Before the show started, you could see children trying to do magic tricks with their wands, this just made the atmosphere more exciting.
The show started with the charismatic Ring Master, his dialogue and costume made it the perfect start to the show. From the start, he had the audience’s attention. When the magicians, Sam & Justin were introduced, the magic really started. The show itself wasn’t overloaded with magic, however the excitement never died down. The sound of constant laughter throughout the theatre is what contributed to it being a great show.
My tip for anyone considering watching the show, is to get seats on the ground level. There are some lucky children that get chosen to go on stage to be part of the show, and unfortunately those sitting in the upper level aren’t even acknowledged which did result in some upset children. Overall, this was a great family show, and we would go and watch it again.

The winry has a unique cellar door and vast property suitabl for large scale events lik Wine Machine. We loved the warm and entertaining heart of the Yarra Valley!

The entire audience was held on the edge of their seats by a sheer spectacle of daring escapes, mind-blowing illusions, mime, and magic, as well as by the amazing costumes and top-notch performers. As long as there have been circuses and theatres where illusionists can perform, their art has been able to draw crowds. Michael Boyd performs a series of jaw-dropping illusions surrounded by a series of precisely planned production acts in a cheery circus-like atmosphere with bright red banners and festoon lights, accentuated by a smart lighting story and outstanding acoustics.
