CUPCAKES (BANANOT) - JIFF 2013 NEW
website

RATE: 6.5/10

Cupcakes movie from Jewish International Film Festival Melbourne 2013 is an excellent entertainment for the whole family. The music is excellent - lots of new songs.
The main character face some life and family challenges to support them going to  the International Songs Contest in Europe. There are lots of funny moments and unexpected situations.

There is one very important thought 99% of us do: we always say NO to anything that might come our way. Our close-minded decisions sometimes prevent us from excellent opportunities: video clips on your own songs, staging and filming your book, publishing your poetry etc etc. From one moment on let's choose and say YES to everything... and see what  changes will come up...

RENOIR NEW
RATE: 10/10

it is not art it is magic left to us by the short strokes of his brush...

the movie strikes you from the first episode: there is a very beautiful girl riding a push bike down the country road. not an ordinary picture for this time I believe as they used to see women rather with children sitting at home and cooking. her whole appearance is not ordinary at all and not only becasue of the bike but what she wears: the colors are bright, orange bright, blinding bright like the sun. her hair is the same color: right orange. she is his model, she is Renoir model. her skin is velvety and light, she is like a waterfall in spring. the movie colors continue teasing throughout the whole picture: they are burgundy red and they look so juice on the green country-side background... and his women are the same: they are all full of life and colors. "all women came here as models and remain maids, or they came here as maids and stayed as models..." it is so peaceful, green and tranquil... your eyes are resting together with the naked sleeping models... they have kids and they run everywhere... but something worries you apart from these seemingly still waters there are deep emotions that take place: pain and sickness, death and jealousy...

Renoir's son comes back from war and the emotions become more intense... "you never use black color in your paintings" - "no, war and death... I have no interest in this... why do you go to war? to be killed? or to kill some nice gernam fellow who smokes pipe? war does not change anything..." there is a contrast shown so vividly: she is riding her bike again among flowers and blooming trees and she sees faces of soldiers who have just returned from war: they are ugly and wounded, and crippled, and disabled... but "pain passes and beauty remains..."... and yes, you should never tell your woman that you have no dreams and no ambitions. she lives and breathes for you and your dreams. if you do not have dreams you kills her with just your words...

the country side is shot magnificently, i adore french movies that show french country side in all its beauty. the more attractive is when the water is pictured right. it gives so much depth and abundance as the most powerful substance on earth... it creates thoughts and brings back your memories so much information it carries...

loved this movie for the fine and complex emotions and for the beauty that is worth all Renoir's colors blend together in the waters of his love and expression of flesh and matter with the spirit shining through... his paintings are not defined - they are like people: you can not draw the lines to get the understanding who they are: they are all with the world and different as the flexible transitions from beige to red, from orange to blue, from a woman to the sky, and from tree to water... "a painting should be something pleasant and cheerful"

if you like art you will find so much inspiration in this picture ad so much for your imagination...

the soundtrack for this movie is a separate piece of art on its own (just the last addition to our review)

IDA - JEWISH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2013 NEW
website for reference only as the movie was added to the festival schedule later
RATE: 10/10

for those of you not familiar with Sokurov, Tarkovsky and some famous Polish directors style this movie will seem very slow. you might even say: there are way too many pauses. but this is the way of traditional Russian, Polish and some other countries school of cinematography - it gives you time to think, to readjust and to judge, as we say more Between words than With words...
the movie is very deep and unpredictable considering the way the story line goes and the behavior of the major characters
it is the high art movie if you look at the camera angles taken and many more small details you will notice

interaction of an individual with society can be built in two ways: a way of sanity and a way of debauchery but both ways are no-through roads so to speak as it is shown in the movie - one is ended by suicidal act, the other - symbolically does not even end, there is no destination point but an isolated road with no aim. if you are in the society it is almost impossible to balance between one and another: you can not claim to be a saint and still lie in adaptation to survival.
the actors are magnificent: the faces are very attractive but not in hollywood shallow suggestion of this word but in inner beauty and spirituality shining through the facial expressions...
there is a very painful scene show also when the person is confessing in personal conversation how he got the land and the property in exchange of someone's life.money and later on - his own dignity as there is no sin that comes without guilt and repenting first of all in front of your own self - a horrible experience indeed of the soul taking such path...
have to mention a very thorough and considerate work with subtitles as you actually can read them without interruption during the hole movie... meaning no subtitles disappearing on white screen background etc

We can not comprehend their world's values and we never will... they go to breakfasts with Kalashnikov, they play  with guns, they shoot you from the corner and they are not evil nor they are kind. They turn into something that does not have a human definition. You watch the movie and you feel yourself more than 2000 years ago at Coliseum where slaves fought for their lives, bread and freedom. But the audience are not the peasants nor they are noble Romans, The audience is the whole world. When is the light at the end of the tunnel, where is the end of the story in the game "who is right and who is wrong?" and "he killed my brother, i have to kill him". The edges are sharp, the characters are hot blooded and the blood is red and it sticks to your fingers... Whose land is it? Whose money are paid to support this war in the middle of piece and piece in the middle of war. You step into this world and the rules change like in the weird computer game where you must have three lives to survive. It is a men's world. The picture is so vivid and so realistic your heart will stop quickening, not our type of movie though it is done magnificently well...

when it comes to politics i am as they say: "we do not talk politics in the white house" i would like to remain silent. there is no politics - there are just human beings acting either like human beings or as total repulsive creatures when they achieve something and when they get the power. they either love and serve their people for the sake of high purpose of one human being or they simply sell them and betray them for the sake of their own personal gains. politics is made out of people as it is so like everywhere in any industry - there are humans and there are no humans, but animals... i'd rather talk about strong family bonds, relationship between fathers and sons, racism and people humiliation than i talk about politics... and this movie has enough of everything above mentioned...

the actors' work is absolutely stunning: there is one actor better than the other- I can not even list all the famous actors and actresses in this movie as they are all great playing their characters... there is one thing we all should remember: there is no black, no white, no boundaries between countries, no rich nor poor as it is all created to separate us and make us weak... the life of one person would not change anything but there are seeds of love that he/she plants into others heads to create a whole generation of the spiritually advanced and strong generation...

the movie is excellent to watch from a historical point of view as the butler serves 8 consecutive presidents - one after the other. the faces change but the walls are still the same... but i was watching this movie with a heavy heart as i can not comprehend how it was America and it only happened 50 years ago when there were places for white and colored people. i simple could not believe my eyes...

the movie will be also interesting to watch for the people with families who are raising their own children as most of the problems are the same everywhere: rebellious kids, strict fathers and some family rules that do not mean anything...

WOMEN DRIVE ME CRAZY NEW

when you try to fix everyone else lives yours does not work right or does it? you can not avoid your destiny no matter what you do or can you at least change something that your parents fail to change? can you escape a reality by choice or will you be stuck forever with the 7 women of your life.

the main character is funny by nature: he looks like English comedian Mr Bean and Russian comedian Mikhail Galustyan at the same time and he s different - may be he is more Italian-gentler. The type of the face makes everyone laugh just by looking at him, he does not have to try hard. he IS FUNNY. The movie is extremely humorous: the cinema theater that was full of loud by nature Italians was laughing our loud every 2-3 min of this light and entertaining movie.

the main character is literally
"locked" and "bound" to do what he does not want to do following the orders of the women inside his house: his mother, his sisters and his grandmother. they are all awful in their own way: one is a man addict, the other one is very self-centered etc etc, the list goes on and on. he can not invite any girlfriend in his house as it all ends up with a disaster. when women rule - there is no logic and no rules. the girl of his dream leaves him but for a different reason - not because of the women surrounding him but because how he chooses to act in order to make his close ones happy. will they still be together? find out for yourself out be prepared as you will be crying from laughter

LOVELACE NEW

this movie will be eyes opening experience for people who are the main porn movies consumers as well as some parents who do not want to care about their daughter/son's lives. lots of parents do not want to hear what is told to them, they often show their children at the door at the most important moments in their children's lives - parents might learn to listen and to understand without judgement - this is why parents are there for their children: they are there to care and protect. this small gesture might prevent some horrible domestic violence and men abusing women in the most disgusting way.

A FIVE STAR LIFE NEW

LAVAZZA ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2013

amazing movie which is not really about a 5 star life! there are just our thoughts after today's view:
1. on the movie: she is single, no kids, not even one lover as she can not afford any of the above because of her lifestyle: checking in and checking out. she values the five star hotels around the world following some specific categories. she is a mystery guest all hotel staff is afraid of...
2. on the actors: astonishing performance of the main character! 5 stars from us! her eyes are sooo full of expression and so beautiful!
3. her profession becomes an obsession of her life where she neglects her relatives, checks everything and everyone on 5 star perfection and life is just passing by her like a magical arabic dancer's see-through outfit passes the eyes of an observer...
4. can she makes her life better? is not it when she always wanted - loneliness... ?
5. everything might be perfect but it can be annoying to the extend when people who look after her comfort become simple robots when they are required to be humans... so not everything in life can be judged by how many stars it has... robots might be perfect but they do not have soul
6. will she find the turning point in her life or it will always continue to be the same: high teas, white gloves, luggage and dusty curtains... ??
7. there are so many psychological moments in this movie we can not elaborate on all of them: there are family issues apart from the main characters involved and with them in awkward circumstances and situations...
8. is there ever be noise in the artificial silence and luxury of the hotel theater life? are there ever be kids' laughter, friends' eyes and lover's hugs? and where is it happening: Berlin, Morocco, Roma or may be Shanghai?

imagine you go to the party and you drink: one - two - and more drinks and you still feel OK... it's this one last drink that you think is still OK that can spoil everything... you never know which one it is... who knows? masters might know...

i am not talking drinks of course - i am talking art taste if you still follow me... there is always a boundary - a thin layer of "oops - you have overdone this!" and they did... they overdone it with sex, drugs and alcohol (really? yes, the latter is there too)... why? because the art needs a feeling and a touch of the master... too much is not better . it is like spices in your dish - you put too much salt or too much sugar - and you spoil the dish... the less the better and the more intense the other flavors will come out... talking and doing sex too much and all the time is not "not good" - it is OK in some particular groups of people that are basically obsessed with it too much...

sex is simply part of life, but there are so many other things - why they try to be so plain and talk and do only this? when it is too much the dish becomes over-spiced... it is still entertaining and light but it is over-spiced... well, one spoon might be good enough for majority of us. it can make the dish boring and you are will not be able to see anything else apart from vomiting after drugs overdosing, alcohol "sufficiency" and sex overindulgence... but some of you might like it spicy...

METALLICA THROUGH THE NEVER NEW
RATE: 9/10

media preview - kind courtesy of Hopscotch Films

in cinemas October 10 Oct. this music ran through me like electricity current reminding me of the times i heard it so many times before as my daughter, Masha was really into it in her teenage years: all her bedroom walls were penciled with their songs' lyrics...

The IMDB website reads: Trip, a young roadie for Metallica, is sent on an urgent mission during the band's show. But what seems like a simple assignment turns into a surreal adventure.

A "surreal adventure" wording sounds like a softy fairy tale, but the emotions will run through you like a sword of the iron rider whose face is covered by a terrible mask of war; the music will stir you like electricity current, like a lighting of the Universe size, like 100,000.enormous fireworks coming from beneath the earth, like storm made out of bronze destruction and like hundreds of missiles blasted in one spot - your chest...  You will experience all of them in one and half hours intense Metallica concert that is accompanying this youngster's adventure mission who is facing the impossible and so real world: unexpected fear, cold horror; there will be intentions that will uncover the deep hidden and darkest parts of your soul - be prepared. You will face death, hatred, resistance and impossibility to change the humankind around you. you will become a silent observer of your life unwrapping its sharpest corners and torturing you with glass and concrete sounds of revulsion... or you might turn into a brave fighter yourself? watch it and you will see... you will be fascinated by the power of the music, the  lyrics and the deep messages it carries across... also keep in mind - it is 3-D so everything is tripled regarding your senses...
"Nothing Else Matters"

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But I know

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
And nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters

Never cared for what they say
Never cared for games they play
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
And I know

So close no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are

TURANDOT OPERA NEW
RATE: 10/10

preview - kind courtesy of Ned & Co

This screening of delightful Turandot Opera was a really live experience at the Royal Opera House London. It is amazing that lots of people have this opportunity to listen to such masterpieces from their local cinemas with a full quality sound and sensation that you are part of the opera lice audience.

Andrei Serban's staging of Puccini's final opera is a glorious pageant of rich colour, dance and drama. Find out more following this link

Music courtesy of EMI Classics

'I will win' exclaims Prince Calaf as he boldly sets out to thaw the heart of the ice princess Turandot. In the final months of his life Puccini struggled to depict Calaf's triumph: he died before finishing the final act. Turandot was completed by Franco Alfano two years later and given its premiere in 1926 at La Scala, Milan. During this initial performance the conductor Arturo Toscanini famously laid down his baton in Act III, declaring 'at this point, the Maestro died'. Turandot has gone on to have great worldwide success.

Puccini creates a rich soundworld for this dark and erotic fairytale. The opera contains many memorable arias, from 'Signore, ascolta', as Liù appeals to Calaf not to attempt Turandot's deadly riddles, to Turandot's defiant 'In questa reggia'. Turandot also contains one of the most famous of all arias -- 'Nessun dorma', sung as Calaf anticipates winning the Princess's hand. Andrei Serban's staging -- one of the most spectacular in The Royal Opera's repertory -- transports an audience to a beautiful but savage world. Sally Jacobs's colourful sets and costumes are inspired by ancient Chinese culture, reflecting the traditional Chinese melodies woven into the score.

BLUE JASMINE NEW
RATE: 10/10

you do not want to watch the trailer when you go to Woody's movies - you know already it will be perfect. you only go to check out whet else the genius head has prepared for you on the plate to digest and to think about for the next week...

you will not be bored - that is for sure - as you will never know what is around the corner . it is as complex as life itself

the characters are so natural - you can not say if they are good or not - they are all like we are - both sides are present as it should be, organic.

one of the themes - your past chasing you. even if you started your life brand new you can not wipe it off, nor you can forget it and start from scratch. it will always be there. the people appear from your past when you less expect it even if you want to get rid of your past desperately. you can not run from yourself. you can change your relationship with your past but you can not let go your past...

one more theme - if you have never done anything in life what do you do to live and support yourself. you feel like a plat in a bare field with nothing on it. such people live in glass houses, they do not know life, they do not know any other way of living...

there is another one - two sisters that relate differently to life and how they see themselves in it. low self esteem does not let one of them out of the trap seeing men who do not worth her, on the contrary - the other does not see herself rather than in higher life...

there are much more other themes in this movie... but it is better to watch the movie and enjoy it as it is very complex and very emotional...
another perfect art work of Woody.

some thoughts:
1. probably one of not many movies that needs to be watched not even twice but watched and stopped as it is so fast and so full of creative ideas from the world of fantasy.  highest reward for creativity. our best one is cocktail piano - piano makes to cocktails depending on the music you play... pretty cool. ah?
2. you watch it under pressure as you never know what is happening next and every 5 min there is always something unexpected
3. a light satiric picture of reality but it is not evil but funny related to job interview, politics and many other things
4. first part of the movie you will be laughing on very good joke but not verbal but expressed through gestures or physical expressions
5. the second part of the movie is totally different and you might be disappointed in the finale as we do not get used to such movie ending solution but this is life... movie turns from a light comedy to a tragic and serious film with lots of psychological "moments"

6. camera work is amazing: nature, lots of different solutions and set ups - more than a simple art work...
7. ,,,and of course there is a lovely audrey tautou - two words that make a huge difference
8. we were surprised that this movie has not many sessions at the palace cinemas as it is totally not an entertainer, but a very deep piece of art for people with eyes wide open that are curious about new things in life and love, music and psychology.
9. there are movies that you forget about in 2 hours - like people who you forget in 2 months after meeting them... this movie you will e remembering through your feelings for many years... it is a high level of art.  real movie-lovers will not miss this movie as it is original and unique.

i really felt sorry I dragged Alex to this movie. despite the fact that the actors were absolutely brilliant (Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode) and played their best, costumes were immaculate and interesting, music and piano were totally heaven (Philip Glass of course), set up was very engaging, director's work was extremely fantastic and camera was outstanding for some reason the movie did not fit into what we would rate very high. no deep impressions left and at the end it seemed very empty and plain. we could not understand why at the beginning but then we realised that perhaps thriller was not our kind of dish... however... you might find it interesting, folks...  especially those of you who love lots of blood and psychopaths around every corner. feeling seemed completely made up and fake - we just did not get the purpose of the movie.. sorry (as I do not like bad reviews and the above written was pretty bad)...

media preview Hopscotch

to be honest i did not expect too much from this movie: Formula 1 is not a girl thing... or like they say in this movie: "We are men, we love women. But more over that we love cars..." or should I say: "We are women, we love men too, but more over that we love talking about them..." Let's talk about two of them... and anyway back to the beginning of my story, talking about men... I hate cute guys or the guys who know that they are good looking and there are way too many of such guys in this movie...
Yes, my expectations were very low but my expectations vanished... actually they did right at the beginning of the movie in the first two minutes.
The movie is about two world famous, two brilliant racing car drivers, the British James Hunt and the Austrian Nikki Lauda. They hate each other, they both want the other one to be dead rather than alive. They race each other facing death no matter what just with one purpose - to be first. Their will power, their intuition and their psychic abilities beyond the normal human being can handle, because they can not survive without it; no one can in such conditions they put themselves in. Every road turn can be their last one, every girl's kiss can be fatal and every autograph they sign can end with the final full stop they put on the paper. They are loved - we love such men as the movie says: "the more often you look death in the eyes the more alive you feel and people love live, they get attracted to it, they get attracted to the people who love life" But there is a paradox in the complicated relationship the drives are in: no matter how they treat each other, no matter how much they hate one another, they need each other, there is no race if there are no enemies. They are only surviving to win the other: be it on the road or on the hospital bed. They make and shape each other as if there was only one of them he would have no aim to complete, no purpose to live and no summit to climb. We need enemies, they push us to the winning pedestals. As they say in the movie (another almost-quotation goes): "it is scary to be happy, as happiness weakens us, you have now too much, you have now something to loose.... but even thinking about it makes you already lost..."
Both drivers are the winners, each one in their own ways...
It is an excellent movie, for the whole movie you will actually feel that you are behind the Formula 1 wheel; the movie will shock you and it will make you feel alive, it will touch your inner ego and your inner pride without that no top can be conquered and no race can be won... the main of which is life itself.

some thoughts as usual:
1. it's a very touching story about a young couple trying to make their relationship complete when they just do not realise that they are already there - there is nothing to correct and they are happy as they are - loving and caring for each other...

2. this movie is filmed through the eyes of the main male character. i believe that many men will be interested to watch this movie. He, Guido (Luca Marinelli)  is intelligent, finely made and He is not fit in a dumb and rude world that surrounds Him - there are not many men like this and He is so unique. She is also quite a personality - She, Antonia (Thony) has a colorful life behind Her, in the past, so to speak ex-playgirl. they are so different and so alike. they have something real in their relationship, something so natural...
3. there are other couples filmed as a contrast and as a comparison - their neighbours' family, their parents and relatives' families
4. He is the person that does not give up. you have to fight for your love - very banal and simple thought but this is the way it works. there is no other way for a true love even you have to be beaten for this.
5. it is a movie about true love and as a contrast: not real love (Her ex boyfriend), sometimes it is about relationship that do not lead to anything, sometimes...
6. you realise the presence of kids does not matter for good relationship. compare this: their neighbours have three kids and they are not happy together... kids make your relationship complete if they are there, but you can be happy even without kids. kids do not bond people, they are only a result of love materialised. they will be on the way if there is no love at all, they will not be needed and they will feel unwanted...
7. it is a movie with a very strong aftertaste feeling... you will want to kiss someone you really love, someone next to you and tell him/her about it

8. bravissimo muzica! Thony is playing the main character and sings life - and she is amazing!

some thoughts
1/ the movie's psychological "palitra" or should I say painted canvas is very diverse: there are many stories in one movie interconnected; they are all very grounded and so natural in their moment and details

2/ the main character was played magnificently. we used to see him in the roles of playful lovers but this was a very seemingly unsuitable, unusual/not typical and unexpected role for him and did it brilliantly with great success...
3/ the things that appear as lies from the first glance in reality are truthful - very usual live situations that happen to many of us. the liar might turn to be the most truthful and genuine story teller - just he/she has some manners that do not suit the conventional behavior (how often we all saw it in real life!). but the most seemingly positive people might appear to be the worst liars in the world and even criminals.
4/ there is no limit to life changers and transformations that can stop people from feeling depressed and suicidal like it happened with an old teacher who had lost all his hopes when he suddenly met the old love of his life that changes him and his life values forever.
5/ the orphan and the principal complex relationship are very significant too and very finely shaped as well as both characters
6/ not to mention here that there are lots of happy-crazy Fellini notes that we adored
7/ music and poetry blend in the movie are absolutely awesome and you just can not have enough of both art forms so in place and so beautifully they fit some certain episodes.
8/ the movie is not an art piece but we found it extremely interesting and intriguing to the point that till the very end you do not know how each story will end...
9/ a must to see for all from 16 to 80 years old (if you care of course and not in between but even before and after

Ancient Cry by Giosuè Carducci

The tree towards which
you stretched your baby hand
the green pomegranate
with its beautiful vermilion flowers,

in the silent solitary garden
has now come back to life,
and June refreshes it
with light and warmth.

You, flower of my beaten
and dried out plant,
you, of my useless life
last ultimate flower,

you are in the cold earth,
you are in the black earth;
neither the sun delights you more
nor love reawakens you.

Pianto Antico by Giosuè Carducci

L’albero a cui tendevi
la pargoletta mano,
il verde melograno
da’ bei vermigli fior,

nel muto orto solingo
rinverdì tutto or ora
e giugno lo ristora
di luce e di calor.

Tu fior della mia pianta
percossa e inaridita,
tu dell’inutil vita
estremo unico fior,

sei ne la terra fredda,
sei ne la terra negra;
né il sol più ti rallegra
né ti risveglia amor.

This is one funny and light Italian comedy about the groom meeting the parents in law. Reminded us of some famous American movies on the same subject - very entertaining. he is madly in love with her and their wedding day is around the corner, but when you get married please remember - you get the whole package: the laws of any kind and breed including the dog, The groom gets in situations where he does not look the best and he is trying too hard to impress his darling's parents - the more he tries the worse it gets - very familiar situation half of our population were in at least once. His best friend is even worse as he takes and breaks everything he sees adding to the grooms' troubles... the groom might be cretino and idioto but he is getting married to a very pretty girl indeed... or is not he?.. Would the in-laws forgive him everything he has done a week before the wedding day including his ex-lover announcing that she is pregnant?.. I am sure if you want to have a good time and some good and loud laughs you will enjoy the film.  It is also excellent for the whole family to watch.

THE ROCKET

a couple of thoughts:
1/ we live in such a close society media-brain-washed not seeing what is going in the world around us. there are other countries there too. there are different people living there too: some of them do not have roofs above their heads and a bowl of rice for dinner.
2/ there is a world of darkness and people with limited minds: killing their own children and the cursing live ones. we can only relate to them comparing with what we have and what we do not have: thoughts, emotions etc. they are surrounded by hunger, illnesses, alcoholism, wars and so much suffering we can not comprehend even half of what we see on the screen...
3/ these people are extremely powerful not only physically but emotionally, mentally and spiritually (neglecting their "dark" parts). the example is a small girl with a pair of very smart eyes - Kia. she climbs bare trees, she performs the tasks the europen child of the same age would not fulfill even half way through... the children are very adaptive and spiritually healthy and strong to the life hardship. but not only her - take the whole village - all except one drunken man take the life hardship very muscularly... alcohol gives you power but it is like electricity shortcut - it is there and it is gone the next moment you are sober
4/ people live very close to nature. the episode with a young sprout of the mango tree is very powerful and significant and shows the film director's vision of the young and healthy generation: it is our seed and pride that is shining through no matter what.

5/ we watched the movie with a great interest as the story line turns very unexpected and story is quite long and exciting; so please also expect to get emotional...

THE BEST OFFER
Rate: 10/10

this movie reminded me of a mechanical clock spring: it is let go only at the end of the movie like it should be with the best detectives. the puzzle gets revealed at the curtains closing.
thoughts:
1. i can not tell you the whole story as otherwise it will be no point watching it. we would love to watch this movie twice knowing the ending of the story and to pay attention to different details.
2. the story has lots of elements and lots of levels to it. the writer should have a brain of a real genius to create something like this. those of you who like complex stories will adore this movie.
3. another amazing work of Jefferey Rush and all other crew. the music and film sound overall is also in harmony with the picture. Jeff should definitely get an Oscar for this role
4. the movie for real gourmet cinema. for those of you who like not a cheap beer but a glass of authentic and rare wine, meaning: the value.
5. there is one important thought: not even art works can be forged. feeling can be as well: fear, frustration, disappointment, even love...
6. on marriage:  it is exactly like an auction - you never know if this is the best offer.

7. never say that you are smart - there will always be someone smarter than you... and sometimes your beautiful mind can be taken by some one else as a weapon against you
8. sometimes it is better to surround yourself with the masterpieces of painted women rather than a real one (but only sometimes)

STORIES WE TELL
Rate: 8/10

very grateful to Ned & Co for the invite we got to this movie media preview.

Stories we tell... don't you like it? Telling the story of your life? How you met him or her, how it worked and how it did not? Don't you like to tell it how you see it today and to tell it how you saw it completely different back then? Don't you like how we all see the same story from a different angle? We see what the others don't and we don;t see what the others notice? and how the story changes with years ... and how it sounds from the main heroes/main characters involved, and how it looks from the parties close to the main heroes who saw it from the inside, and how the story was for the parties who only saw it from the outside...

Stories change and shape to the form we want them to shape. It is in the eyes of a sculptor. I love separation when we consider it from this perspective - the view of the world. There is a certain beauty in separation. Not being him and not being her... and having your own opinion on things and how the world should be.

I know that most of you like watching the movies who have this "past" element in them: shaking cameras, blurted view, distractions, scratches on the film, flashes of light and faded colors... There was one small detail that I really got tired of and gave the movie a lower rate (otherwise it was excellent!) - a bit too long for me (...and may be for the main hero-ess too - she would be a bit bored too considering her bubbly personality) and i got dizzy at the end because of the shaking camera work... But it is only me and my weak vestibular apparatus... Otherwise it is interesting to watch as lots of associations come up to your mind and you start considering yourself in Diane's place... Very deep and moving picture indeed...

there is a little warning for all: lots of russian surnames :o) which was a pleasure to see as there are so many talented and passionate people the surnames covered :o)

Behind the Candelabra
RATE: 7/10

we knew we would be going to the movie that feels like browsing through a gossip glamor magazine: limos, vulgar taste, sex, sparkles of nothing, diamonds, high life, drugs, divorces, decorative dogs, lawyers, intrigues and plastic surgeries... there is one thing we did not expect: (actually we did) Matt Damon, Michael Douglas and other actors brilliant performance... strangely reminded me of Mulholland Drive movie of 2001.

the movie is constructed as a theater decorated play that is staged giving you a feeling that you watch it as part of a theater audience but apart from actors' excellency in this theater there is nothing else to comment on... no ideas... nothing new... just a decoration that was supposed to impress but was rather revolting... and yes... well, as everything in Hollywood something that was meant to start so fake-shiny-manipulating-beautiful ended up full-feelings-cheap-ugly...
